According to a recent press release from K&N, the company, "has released a high flow cold air intake system (69-9000TS) in powder coated silver for the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Volvo S40 2.5 liter engine and the 2007, 2008 Volvo C30 with a 2.5 liter engine. The C30 is typically found in the European Union. See complete vehicle applications list below. The powder coated silver gives our system an OE look. K&N's air intake system also provides additional performance for the turbo charged engine. K&N dynamometer tests show a 14.61 horsepower gain at 3900 RPM." So what this tells me, is that when I look for cold air intakes on sale, I should try to get a K&N model instead of an AFE cold air intake, an AEM cold air intake, or any other brand. If K&N can get these kinds of results, then that's the brand of cold air filter that I want to install on my car.

<img title="" alt="do cold air intakes increase mpg, do it yourself cold air intake" cold air intakes increase mpg, do it yourself cold air intake" src="http://www.ireporter.tv/Upload/bestcoldairintakes.com/cold%20air%20intakes4.jpg" />

A lot has been said recently about the advantages of cold air intakes, but many people are left wondering: do cold air intakes increase mpg? At the same time, they may also be wondering, do cold air intakes void warranty? Is it possible to make a do it yourself cold air intake? While I'm not sure that I'd want to create a do it yourself cold air intake, my answer to the question do cold air intakes increase mpg is: Yes. To me, installing a cold air intake simply makes sense. It makes your engine run cooler and cleaner, pipes cleaner air into your car's passenger cabin, and increases your mpg. The thinking behind this is simple: when you feed your engine cool air, your engine will function more efficiently, burning fuel more efficiently, and extending the life of your engine because a cool engine will suffer less stress and less metal fatigue. So, my advice to you is to install a cold air intake on your car, whether it's a roush cold air intake, a velocity cold air intake, or whatever brand you choose. With gas prices going through the roof this summer, it will pay for itself in a very short time.

In a previous blog I mentioned how it's now possible to get a Steve McQueen-style Bullitt Ford Mustang GT cold air intake equipped street rod. Well now, Ford has gone one better and you can get a racing-style Ford Mustang GT cold air intake equipped FR500S competition car for under $100,000! Ford has previously offered other models of the FR500 in different variants that cost $125,000 for the "C" model, and a whopping $250,000 for the GT model. Interestingly enough, all of these beautiful rides came equipped with variants on the Ford Mustang's high-performance mill.

According to a recent press release, "Power is provided by a tweaked version of the standard 4.6L V8 found in the Mustang GT, producing about 325 hp. Changes to the car include a new cold air intake, a modified exhaust system, performance tuning by Roush, a stripped down interior to remove excess weight, the addition of a rear wing and a roll cage. Co-developed by Ford Racing Technology and Miller Motorsports Park, a total of 77 Mustang FR500S’ were built by AutoAlliance International in Michigan." So, if you have a serious need for speed, and want to compete, you can get your own Ford Mustang GT cold air intake equpped race for a mere $75,000.
http://www.bestcoldairintakes.com/2008/March/How-Much-Do-Cold-Air-Intakes-Increase-MPG.htm

<IMG height=113 alt="do cold air intakes increase mpg, aem cold air intake" cold air intakes increase mpg, aem cold air intake" src="http://www.ireporter.tv/Upload/www.bestcoldairintakes.com/cold%20air%20intakes3.jpg" width=150>

As I've advised in previous blogs, adding a cold air intake to your engine is a good idea? Why? Well, ask yourself this question: do cold air intakes increase mpg? The answer is yes. But how much do cold air intakes increase mpg? That's something of an open question. What isn't open to question is the fact that cold air intakes will have a positive impact on your mileage. Why? The answer is simple: adding a cold air intake brings lower temperature air into your engine, causing it to run cooler, which means that it will run smoother and burn less fuel. Based on the research that I've done, I've learned that adding a cold air intake to a car's engine will increase the miles per gallon anywhere from three to seven or eight miles per gallon, depending on what kind of engine your car has, your own driving habits, the elevation you live at, and other factors. Depending on which brand of cold air intake you purchase, it may take a couple of years to pay for the cost of the cold air intake, but installing one should have an immediate impact on your mileage. And, with gas heading for the $4.00 a gallon mark this summer, my feeling is that everybody needs to add a cold air intake to their engine, keep their cars tuned, and keep their tires properly inflated. So the answer the question, do cold air intakes increase mpg, is yes. And with gas prices set to increase a lot over the next few years, it seems like a wise investment to me, whether you buy an aem cold air intake, a roush cold air intake, or whatever brand you favor.

As any movie fan can tell you, Steve McQueen was the King of Cool, and he was at his coolest in Bullitt, driving a souped-up Ford Mustang. Now, if you want to emulate your hipster hero, you, too, can drive a Ford Mustang Bullitt, a limited edition GT that is not only smoking fast, it's also a sweet drive, especially, with the Ford Mustang GT cold air intake under the hood, boosting the horsepower as well as extending the Bullitt's 15 City/26 Highway MPG. How much the Ford Mustange GT cold air intake increases the mileage is an open question, depending on many factors, including your driving habits, the kind of gas you normally buy, what kind of carburetor you have, and how you've modified your engine. At any rate, adding a Ford Mustang GT cold air intake makes sense for other reasons as well. For example, a Ford Mustang GT cold air intake will also make your engine run cooler whether it's on the highway, or you're just going around the block for the paper. A cooler engine will have a longer life that one that runs hot. Any mechanic can tell you that. So if you want to make like Steve McQueen, then get yourself the limited edition Mustang Bullitt with the Ford Mustang GT cold air intake under the hood. Go faster and further with a cooler engine!

You may love your Hummer H2 for its ruggedness, roomy interior and raw power on the road, but I'd be willing to bet that with oil prices hovering around $101 a barrel, and gas prices guaranteed to skyrocket this summer, you may be feeling a teensy bit of buyer's remorse. But the thing with Hummer H2 owners, they're loyal. They love the big brutes they drive, but they can't just say to heck with lousy mileage as their Hummer's big V8 sucks down the petrol like so much Krystal champagne. So what's a Hummer lover to do? Well, you could install a Hummer H2 cold air intake. Getting a reputable dealer to install a Hummer H2 cold air intake will not only increase your gas mileage, it'll also give you a big boost to your horsepower. That's right, installing a Hummer H2 cold air intake unleashes the powerful beast lurking inside that hulking mill under the Hummer's broad hood, and it'll save you money in the long run, to boot. Fortunately for Hummer owners, they have a lot of options that they can use that won't void their warranty and are street legal in all 50 states as well. If you want to install a Hummer H2 cold air intake, then you should track down the K&N 57 Series FIPK Cold Air Intake, Generation II, and the K&N 77 Series High Flow Performance Air Intake. These are two of the best options for you to consider if you're getting a Hummer H2 cold air intake.

If you're a speed fiend with a yen to go faster, faster in your Corvette, then you might want to consider the Callaway Corvette. It's a customized version of the standard Corvette that is available in limited amounts to certain dealers. Since it comes with a cold air intake to help boost performance and mileage, after you buy one you cand find out do cold air intakes increase mpg, and do cold air intakes void warranty guarantees. Well, since you'll be paying an additional $18.5K for your Callaway 'Vette and since it comes with a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty, the answer to the question do cold air intakes void warranty guarantees, the answer would be a resounding "NO!". However, you may well ask, what do you get for the $18, 5000 you pay on top of the 'Vette's not insignificant price tag? You get your horsepower boosted up to 580, and according to Callaway's founder Reeves Calloway, "Our customer gets an individually built, uniquely styled automobile that can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, runs the quarter-mile under 11 seconds, and delivers a top speed of 210 mph." With speeds like that, the next logical question to ask is: do cold air intakes increase mpg? I sure hope so, because at prices like these, you'll need to pinch pennies wherever you can.

If you need a Roush cold air intake or Hummer h2 cold air intake, or just about any other kind of high-performance aftermarket auto part, then you need to know about MotorWeb.com. This site just became authorized online dealer of Airaid, which offers some of the best aftermarket performance intake systems made. This is good news, because it enables parts buyers to have yet one more well-stocked, reasonably priced auto parts supplier online. I don't know about you, but I try never to buy parts through my dealer, and if it's something like an AFE cold air intake or an AEM cold air intake, you're better off buying the part yourself online and saving the dealer passing on his hefty markup and usually unreasonable shipping charges. And frankly, I'm all for adding a cold air intake to my car so that I can answer for myself the question of do cold air intakes increase mpg for myself. And judging from the selection of different cold air intakes that I found on AutoWeb.com, I think that answering that question won't cost me a heck of a lot, either.

No matter who you purchase from the tubing, fasteners and air filters will be similar to each other. With that in mind, I attached a Do It Yourself cold air intake video that should help you during the install process no matter what vehicle you are using. The car shown in this video is an Acura TL. The look under your hood may not be exactly the same but the same components will be found (large plastic air box and electrical harnesses). So adapt what you learn from this video and use it on your own vehicle.

The first step included is to take off your front bumper. This is something I have never done or needed to do because the vehicles I have done it for have had easy access to the air box without taking the bumper off. I would skip this step unless you see no other way. Note that installing a home made cold air intake may trip your "check engine light" but pay no attention to that.

Now I don't know if an AFE cold air intake really is the best, but it sure would be easy to find out. There is so much information on the Internet about AFE cold air intakes for Jeeps, Cold Air Intakes for 2008 Chevy Silverado, cold air intakes for Nissan Frontier, or cold air intakes for just about every make and model of auto out there that you can find what you're looking for with surprising ease. There's been a real explosion of interest in cold air intakes on sale. On the site CarReview.com, I also found some excellent short reviews from drivers who'd installed AEM Cold Air Intake on their cars. One poster, who'd installed an AEM Cold Air Intake on his Mitsubish Lancer said, "Car works well -- even better...Noticeable change in hp...I've been using it for nearly a year now and it's still doing good even for long rides. Worth every penny!" Another poster who drives a Honda Civic LX got my attention because I drive a Honda Civic myself. He also had good things to say about the AEM Cold Air Intake: "It runs great, sounds awesome, and has gained me ~7MPG." Now that last bit really got my attention. If you can gain 7 MPG for your mileage with a simple modifcation costing less than $200 in most cases, how long will it take to pay for itself with gas prices rising every other week?

In my case, I was only interested in the increased MPG associated with this basic vehicle modification. Many wonder, do cold air intakes increase MPG? And I say yes at least in my experience. The gains might not be earth shattering but they are definitely there and with the price of gas any extra mile will help soften the blow to the pump when you have to fill up.

I drive a 2005 Scion TC that has a standard Injen cold air intake. These run for about 200 dollars after you factor in tax and shipping. While they do claim to offer horsepower gains the increase is marginally. My vehicle is rated at 30 MPG freeway and somewhere around 25 while in the city. I do the majority of my driving on surface streets but have noticed that I am still getting just about 30MPG. I know this because I have logged how many miles used on the odometer with a completely full tank. In the past three times that I have done this I have driven for just over 300 miles on a twelve gallon tank. I strongly recommenced an Injen cold air intake if you are looking for better MPG.
With gas prices sky-high, one of the hottest trends is anything that will increase mileage and improve performance on your car. One of the most widely-touted modifications you can make to your car right now is installing a cold air intake of some kind. An article posted on the canada.com website describes the benefits of a cold air intake thusly: "The benefits of the gasoline system are increased cool-air flow for better overall power and mileage. The diesel setup increases cool-air flow twice as much as the factory system allowing the turbo to spin quicker, thus increasing boost to make more torque and horsepower. The cooler air helps increase diesel engine life. Both systems use reusable oil-impregnated filters that trap contaminants without sacrificing air flow. These filters come with a lifetime warranty. Again, the price depends on the application but starts at around $300." But, do old air intakes increase mpg? I haven't seen enough hard data to decide, but the theory seems sound. However, before installing home made cold air intakes or a name brand like a velocity cold air intake, find this out: do cold air intakes void warranty details on your car?
